About The Event

A professional development training programme was organised at St. Francis De Sales School, Guwahati, on 6 October 2026 at Mermier Hall, with the participation of the Teaching and Administrative Staff. The programme aimed to strengthen professional competencies, promote reflective practices and enhance the effectiveness of staff members in their respective areas of responsibility.

The programme commenced with a warm welcome to the Resource Person, Mrs. Swati Sengupta, by the school fraternity. As a gesture of respect and hospitality, Rev. Fr. Melvin Parambukattil, Principal, St. Francis De Sales School, Guwahati, welcomed Mrs. Swati Sengupta by presenting her with a Gamusa. The welcome set a warm and positive tone for the training programme and was followed by the commencement of the first session.

The first session, held from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for the Teaching Staff, focused on “Incorporating Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) in the Classroom.” The session was facilitated by Mrs. Swati Sengupta, who holds a Master’s degree in English and an MBA in Human Resources. She began her professional career in the corporate sector in Human Resources and later moved into the education sector, where she has undertaken various academic and administrative responsibilities. With extensive experience in educational leadership and administration, she has been involved in teacher mentoring, curriculum planning, capacity building and the implementation of innovative teaching-learning practices. She has also been associated with NABET processes and is a CBSE Resource Person and Master Trainer, having conducted numerous professional development programmes for educators.

The session on SEL highlighted the importance of addressing the social and emotional dimensions of student development alongside academic learning. It explored key competencies such as self-awareness, self-management, empathy, responsible decision-making and relationship skills, and discussed ways of integrating these into everyday classroom practices. Several activity-based tasks and interactive exercises were conducted during the session, giving teachers opportunities to participate, reflect and connect the concepts discussed with practical classroom situations. The activities encouraged participants to consider different student situations and explore appropriate approaches to supporting students' emotional and social needs.

The second session, conducted from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for the Administrative Staff, focused on “Time Management – Importance of Scheduling and Prioritising.” The session was also facilitated by Mrs. Swati Sengupta, who guided participants through the importance of effective planning, scheduling and prioritisation in managing multiple administrative responsibilities. The session focused on distinguishing tasks according to their urgency and importance, setting priorities, managing deadlines and developing organised work habits. Interactive activities and practical exercises enabled participants to reflect on their existing work patterns, identify priorities and explore strategies for managing competing responsibilities more effectively.

The training programme provided staff members with an opportunity for professional learning, reflection and skill enhancement. The activity-based and participatory approach made the sessions engaging and helped participants relate the learning to their respective roles. The programme reinforced the school's commitment to continuous professional development, capacity building and continuous improvement, encouraging staff members to apply the insights and strategies gained during the training in their daily professional practices.
